The irrigation design software has a wide range of functions for designing large and complex irrigation systems in a fast, easy and accurate way. WCADI allows creating a project with the contour of desired terrain obtained through Google Earth (.kmz file).
With the help of program calculations, users receive laterals and valves for each zone and block of the selected terrain. All the calculation results are available in details for the users.
Hydraulic design reports, system pressure calculation results, quantity reports (bills of materials) and other important points are accessible while working with WCADI.

Challenge
WCADI irrigation design software has been functioning and used for agricultural purposes worldwide for more than 40 years. In 2021, WCADI was purchased by global leader in irrigation systems – our client Rivulis.
Having a long history and being a legacy solution, WCADI requires support in terms of already developed functionality, as well as implementation of new features. This is where our work begins.

Solution
We refine the Legacy solution on Visual Basic 6. Our primary focus is on fixing the work of existing functionality: we set the issues with the display of blocks and zones of the terrain, resolved incorrect calculations of laterals, worked out the math for reports and Excel spreadsheets, setup the correct displaying of colors during the execution of specific functions, upgraded from WebBrowser to WebView2, etc.
Besides the fixing of existing functionality, we optimize and refactor the code, as well as adapt the system to work with the new Windows versions.

Result
Despite the fact that our work on the project is still ongoing, we managed to fix and improve the existing large codebase and operation of a big number of system functions, as well as achieve their smooth work. The main WCADI’s features now function correctly and the long-standing tech stack became more optimized.
